Current Legal Issues for Students
Courtroom & Classroom
brings current legal issues to life for your students. Each month during
the school year, Courtroom & Classroom brings you and your
students timely coverage of four recent court cases that have special appeal
for young people. The cases have special value for them in their education and
as students and citizens.
The cases come from both federal and state courts
across the country. They are selected to spark the student's interest. Courtroom
& Classroom utilizes current cases -- not history -- to teach
students basic principles of law and to illustrate how those principles are
applied in today's society.
Save Class Preparation Time
You will be prepared quickly and easily
for lively classroom discussions. The simple straightforward format of Courtroom
& Classroom allows the teacher to be ready for class with a minimum
of preparation time.
Each case is presented in four subdivisions:
1. Summary. A concise summary of the court's ruling allows the
student to quickly understand the holding in each case.
2. Background. Historical facts are provided to tell the student
circumstances giving rise to the case.
3. Analysis. A discussion of the rationale for each ruling allows
the student to critically examine the court's thinking.
4. Excerpts from the Judge's Opinion. Direct quotes from the
judge's opinions are included so that students get to read the actual language
of the court.
Each issue also contains a special Teacher's Page
with suggested comments and discussion questions. Courtroom & Classroom
is teacher friendly!
